the preinst is supposed to remove the symlinks, and the postinst to re-generate these ...
looks like something goes wrong

  Java fails after upgrade to precise

Status in “openjdk-6” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Java doesn't work after an upgrade from Oneiric to precise.

  To reproduce:

  Install baseline Oneiric
  Install jenkins:
    apt-get install jenkins
  Upgrade to Precise

  To fix it, I installed openjdk-7-jre, which solved the problem but
  also left openjdk-6 installed
