ok, I went through all fonts in
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/unfonts-core/ and the problem with the bold
fonts went away after removing this one:

/usr/share/fonts/truetype/unfonts-core/UnDotum.ttf

Bug description:
  Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 I noticed that the fonts in Java
  Swing applications use the bold font weight. This looks really ugly
