How is this related to the installer? (As far as I can see it isn't,

Java applications and a JRE are rather the definition of "related" here.

I've downgraded the bug to "serious" as it neither breaks the whole
system, nor unrelated software, nor appears to introduce either data
loss or security issues, nor renders the JRE completely unusable. There
aren't any htmlunit packages in squeeze and you don't mention issues
with any other software so I debated whether it should be "only"
important.
