I am looking at this but it so far has taken me 2 hours to start to debug it.
If you take more that 2 seconds to reload the theme it is fine.  Slow down.

  Theme editor looses settings

Status in OpenLP - Worship Presentation Software:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When clicking on edit theme, the wizard seems not to load all settings in to wizzard.

Steps to reproduce:
Select theme, click edit "Edit a theme"
Step through the wizzard and click finish.
Select the theme again and click "Edit a theme" this time the theme wizard seams to loose the background settings, as well aa others like text colour!

Windows 7 Latest revision from bzr.
