I found this. If you add a group of images to the service, you can double click on any image in the group and it will display immediately. If you go outside the group of images to another image in the service, it will bring up the background in between changes. If you go from an outside single image back to an image in the group, it will also mess up. Once you are back in the group of images, they change immediately again.

Bug description:
  Windows XP or 7. bzr1113. Add individual images to the service. Click one to go live. Click another one to go live. When you change between images it shows the background image of the theme in between the switch. 
  If you add the images as a group and change slides between the group or use the timer, it does not happen.
