I think that is a good decision. By the way, we are in feature freeze and hopefully this does mean less conflicts for you. Maybe you will manage to finish it by the release of Beta 2.

You could also ask people on the mailing list not to make changes to the affected files (of course only for a short time). But the time between feature freeze and release seems to be a good time for this.
