This is a QT / PYQT bug.
I have had a quick play and if you take out the code to add custom tags it seems to work.

The solution would be to go to first principles and try to see what is
wrong.  I tried to look at the changes in QT 4.8 and could not see
anything obvious.  It may be PYQT but I am not sure where their source
is.

It will be a play and fiddle to sort this out.

  Verse markers get updated only once with QT 4.8

Bug description:
  This might be as well Qt bug, or even someone else's, haven't seen
  this before, therefore most likely is caused by updated libraries or
  nasty hacks in Ubuntu 12.04.

  1. Preview a song.
  2. Preview another one.
  3. See how verse tag on the left of lyrics are not updated.
