I tried it on my old computer (arch box, 1.8 GHz, 1GB RAM, bad "graphic card") and my branch was faster. I didn't did real timings, I was just counting, but without any other computer activity the result were:
branch 2-3s
trunk 3-4s

In my xp vm (about 1,2GHz (I gave my vm one core with 50% of the "power"), 1GB RAM, 64MB Graphic card memory, 2D and 3D disabled, dual screen setup) I got these results:
branch 5s
trunk 7s
