I think this can be considered to be fixed. There is a new features
which allows you to create image groups (folders in openlp).

Bug description:
  OpenLP 1.9.9 (Windows XP Home)

  I would like to be able to add a folder full of images and have it
  show as a single item in the images plugin. This would be very useful
  for doing a quick slideshow when someone gives you a USB drive with
  some photos on it. Combined with the timer function this would be a
  killer feature.
