Message #21935
[Bug 885150] Re: Need non self contained service files
Hi Tim
This will be in the next major release (2.2). Unfortunately we do not
yet have a time scale for this or any of the Alpha or Beta (2.1.x)
releases.
Sorry I cannot give you any more information.

Title:
Need non self contained service files
Status in OpenLP - Worship Presentation Software:
Fix Committed
Bug description:
We need the ability to save "service files" that aren't self
contained. i.e. Instead of saving all the songs and slides in the
service file (.osz file) we instead save a reference to the
songs/items that are in the database.
In particular, this is needed for media files. If we have a service
that contains a large video (300-400Mb), saving this as a service
results in a large file as the entire media file is stored in the
service file. OpenLP "freezes" for a few minutes every time you save
the service file as it is saving to a large file. While having songs
and custom slides self contain makes a lot of sense, large media files
only make sense if you are going to move that service file to another
computer. We often have video files, often being used for 2-3 weeks
and having the ability to not "self contain" the media would make it a
lot easier to use. Currently we compile a service without any media
files, and only add the media files live otherwise when a user makes a
change, it appears things have frozen (and we end up with large
service files that contain duplicate data already on the machine)
- OpenLP 1.9.7, All OS's (currently running under Win 7 Pro)
