Re: [Bug 696863] Re: Problem creating 2 hour plus video

Hi Tobias,

Thanks for this suggestion. I'll give it a try. I have another problem
I've been dealing with. My videos can contain 350 plus clips. Sometimes I
have a real problem importing all of them which can cause Openshot to hang.
Also, when I finally do get them all imported, I start editing out the bad
video which means if I, lets say, clip out a portion of video clip 0001,
then I need to drag over to fill the gap all the other video clips which
might mean dragging 300 clips which takes a lot of time. My solution was to
import and drag all the clips to the timeline, render them all to one big
video clip, then import the single big video file. That way I can clip out
the bad pieces and just move the one large clip to the left to close the
gap. Now for my next problem, as I work through the movie, it takes longer
and longer and longer to make a change. It gets to the point that it can
take several minutes per change, for example, adding a transition, a title,
or just moving to a new location on the timeline. I was thinking that I have
a quad q8400 Intel processor and I'm running 32 bit Ubuntu with 2 gig
memory. I was thinking about a memory problem because my videos can be up
to 16 gig and larger. I was thinking about installing 64 bit Ubuntu. Do
you have any thoughts regarding that?

Again, thanks for the suggestion,

Don

Subject: [Bug 696863] Re: Problem creating 2 hour plus video

Hi Don!

one memory card to complete a video

I also sometimes use more than one memorycard and gets duplicate names
of the clips. My solution is to rename the clips so that the second
cards file names begins with the letter "a" instead of a zero.

First card:
00000.mts
00001.mts
...

Second card:
a0000.mts
a0001.mts
....

This can be done in a Bash shell prompt in Linux with the following
command (cd to the folder with your mts files first):

for o in *;do n=`echo "$o"|awk '{print "a" substr($0,2)}'`;mv "$o"
"$n";done

Regards, Tobias

Title:
Problem creating 2 hour plus video

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Congratulation for a great video editor!!! Here's my objective.
Using OpenShot 2.2.1 on Ubunti 10.10. Camera is Panasonic ZS7 shooting
AVCHD lite. 1) Problem importing 200 clips at one time. Successful
doing 100 at a time then after 200 clips were imported, I needed to
back of to 25 at a time. It seemed to take too much time trying
another 100 clips after 200 clips were imported. I was able to
successfully import 372 (0000 to 0371) clips from one memory card then
another 103 (0000 to 102) clips from a second. 2) Problem with the
small icons with each imported video clip. I had two memory cards,
the clips were imported from both of them and the second memory card
had clips 0000 through 103 which was the same id as the other memory
card's clips. The actual video was correct but the small icons from
the second set of clips displayed on the first set of clips. 3)
Problem with the 300rd clip. At about 1 hour 26 minutes when I added
clip 300 to the timeline, the timeline pointer would disapear when I
tried to view any of the video. It would disapear about 2 seconds at
the beginning of the video. Also, OpenShot started crashing. Also,
earlier, the timeline pointer and it's line would become out of sync
with each other. The line seemed to be on video but it's pointer was
to the right of the line and when the line hit the center point of the
timeline, they would become aligned. I had to eliminate clips back
to about 1 hour 10 minutes then OpenShot seemed to behave enough that
I could continue with the video in two parts, about an hour each. I
had previously added a title at the beginning of the video and I was
not able to go back and work with it. When I selected the title I was
not able to bring up "Font Properties" but I was able to bring up both
"Pick a Colors". I deleted the title and created a new one. No
problems with exporting to DVD and creating a DVD from it. The video
is about one hour 12 minutes long. I will continue with the next 1
hour video. I don't know how many people try to make a 2 hour plus
movie but I think this was a good test. Please let me know if more
information is needed. I am at work and quickly wrote the above. I
hope it isn't too confusing and please E-mail me with any questions.
Thanks for a great video editor and I hope this makes it even more
  amazing than it already is.
