[Bug 602887] Re: Merge move and resize functionality

There are still a number of oddities with the resize tool.

It would be very cool to see a zoom hot-key (like + and -) assigned.
Additionally, holding control and scrolling with the mouse wheel could
also zoom in/out.

I like the idea of mousing over the middle to move the clip and hovering
near the ends to resize the clips.

In both cases, the resize should have the ability to extend to the very
start of the video, and the very end of the video.

If the inserted audio clip, for example, is 2 minutes long and starts 3
minutes into a 10 minute video, I should not be able to extend the audio
clip by resizing it to a length longer than 2 minutes. Consider the
following scenario:

1. User resizes a 2 minute audio clip to 1 minute (this should crop the end of the audio clip by 1 minute).
2. User moves clip to the 5 minute mark in a 10 minute video.
3. User decides to resize the audio clip to make it longer.
4. User extends the audio clip to its original 2 minute length.
5. User continues to extend the audio clip.

At this point, the audio clip should "lock" for a moment (i.e., snap
into place). As the user continues to "resize" the clip, it should
(being fixed at 2 minutes in length), instead be moved, because it makes
no sense to extends a 2 minute audio clip longer than 2 minutes in
length.

An image clip does make sense to extend, however.

Title:
  Merge move and resize functionality

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Ideas for the wishlist:

  Easy
  1. Add a tooltip to the Timeline buttons that indicate the keyboard hot-key (especially for the Move tool and Resize tool).

  Difficult
2.a. Allow zooming in to 0.1 seconds.
2.b. Add handles at the end-points of each clip (e.g., an arrow pointing left on the left side, and an arrow pointing right on the right).
2.c. Click and drag the handle to resize the clip. Note: do not arbitrarily prevent the user from dragging the clip in either direction as far as desired. Sometimes the clip cannot be resized in one direction (for no apparent reason, other than that was the left-most position of where the clip was dragged).
  2.d. Eliminate the Resize tool.

  Background
I have a 30" monitor running at 2560x1600, with OpenShot expanded the entire length. When editing parts of the video that are on the far right, it is inefficient to have to move the mouse all the way back to the left to change from the Move tool to the Resize tool. (A task done quite often.)
