I don't know much about the Unity launcher either, but I think it has to
do with this feature. http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/02/unity-launcher-
gets-file-type-savvy When the launcher does pop out, all the icons are
greyed out, as if nothing will open it. I think it might have to do with
GTK. When you drag an effect or transition the launcher thinks it is a
file. Hopefully when Openshot is converted to GTK3 this problem will be
resolved. Moimael could you confirm if this happens with the GTK3 port.

  Unity launcher pops out

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 11.04: This happens when Openshot is maximized or very close to
  the left edge of the screen. When clicking and dragging a media file,
  effect, or transition, the Unity launcher shows. This gets in the way
  and is annoying to have constantly popping out.
