I can't reproduce this using v1.4.0 of Openshot, MLT 0.7.6.

Is it possible you applied the Rotate effect from the Effects tab?

If not, it seems fixed in these later versions of Openshot/MLT that you
are using,

Title:
  Set Rotate 90 degrees Left and it keeps rotating.

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  After importing the Clip I used the Rotate 90 degrees left function
  and it keeps turning the clip the whole time it's playing spinning out
  of control.  I nearly lost my lunch.
