Title:
Export video, but not deleted clips

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

Don't know if this is a bug or a feature request.

OpenShot is an excellent program, for me the first video editing
program under Linux that works (well, nearly works, please read on).

My use of OpenShot is to import an mpeg2 video (recorded with MythTV),
to cut out the lead-in, lead-out and commercials. Then export
(transcode) the video thus obtained (to mpeg2 again). For export I use
the "Simple Profile": All Formats | MPEG (mpeg2) | DV/DVD Widescreen
  PAL | Med.

Whatever I try (do I overlook something?), I can't get rid of the
deleted clips (the commercials, etc). Yes, they are deleted all right,
but after the transcoding process the deleted clips still turn up as a
black screen. So the transcoded video is roughly speaking the original
video with the deleted clips shown as a black screen.

The MS Windows video editing program I used until now, simply skips
the deleted clips upon transcoding and what remains are the clips I
  want to see, concatenated together.

So, in OpenShot, I now shift the clips I want to retain to the left
and concatenate them. Then the deleted clips are at the end and after
transcoding they keep coming up as an extended period where a black
screen is shown. For the time being, I live with this, but to my
opinion this is not elegant, to say the least.

Oh yes, after deleting and shifting clips, I save the project as a new
project, because only at that time I know the maximum length
(duration) of the transcoded file I want to see and it is my
understanding that upon creating a new project you can specify the
maximum length of the transcoded file. No use, the deleted clips keep
  getting transcoded (as black screen).

If you are really of the opinion that this functionality is correct,
then please add a checkbox in the Export Dialog where the user can
turn off transcoding of deleted clips, because I can't imagine that I
am the only user who finds these black screens unacceptable.

  Some more usage data.

  OpenShot, version 1.4.2.
  Linux distro: openSUSE 12.1.

Kind regards and good luck with further development of OpenShot.
