This could be related to a problem with ffmpeg/MLT, where some audio
codecs are incorrectly being reported by libavcodec-extra-53 as being
available for decode only (i.e. you can't encode with them).

A fix was included in the latest version of MLT, but it might also
depend on your version of ffmpeg/libav.

If you were to build MLT/FFMpeg from source, or use a PPA that ensured
you had the latest SVN versions then it would probably work, but not all
users want to do that.

Bug description:
  Openshot does not render (it hangs but remains responsiv) the
  following codec combinations:

  AVI, msmpeg4v2, pcm_s8 (hangs)
  AVI, msmpeg4v2, pcm_u16be (crashes)
  AVI, wmv1, none (hangs)
