PS since i cant edit my last comment, i have to add another one to
explain why i was confused:

openshot did not show the overlaid image on the timline, it just popped
up out of nowhere in the preview in the gap i had made after the clip
because i wanted to edit the sound.

  it's strange: the redline is in empty space, yet a picture is showing on

  i had trouble with with sound syncronisation at this point too and ended
