[Bug 927755] Re: Dragging video to timeline eats RAM
Try to test with the last version of MLT (0.7.7)
See here how to get the last : https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1861
libavcodec53 4:0.8-1ubuntu2~ppa~precise4
libavdevice53 4:0.8-1ubuntu2~ppa~precise4
libavformat53 4:0.8-1ubuntu2~ppa~precise4
libavutil51 4:0.8-1ubuntu2~ppa~precise4
It seems to be an 'old ' version of FFmpeg, try to add this PPA : https://launchpad.net/~jon-severinsson/+archive/ffmpeg
The last version out of FFmpeg is the 0.10
However, there aren't the only to be old : even goocanvas seems to be a old version and can explain to this issue
libgoocanvas-common 0.15-1
libgoocanvas3 0.15-1
python-pygoocanvas 0.14.1-1ubuntu6
The last is the 2.05 (if my memory is yet good).

Title:
Dragging video to timeline eats RAM
Status in “openshot” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I made a little demo video which is 15M .mkv containing h264/FLAC
encoded.
Import into openshot and then drag to the timeline. Computer freezes
up as OpenShot eats all available memory and swap and eventually gets
killed by the kernel OOM killer.
