[Bug 996983] Re: openshot 1.4 in precise is broken for svga and ogv playback. V 1.4.2 from ppa solved it.
oh I forgot : I use fglrx driver from ubuntu itself for my HD mobility
4650 gpu in my toshiba l500 laptop . But I really think this is a
problem of the openshot ppa because I can run blender and games and
unity 3d with no problem.

Title:
openshot 1.4 in precise is broken for svga and ogv playback. V 1.4.2
from ppa solved it.
Status in “openshot” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
precise final i386
Wanted to do :
1. the app "openshot" ( installed from precise own repo ) was used to
import a ogv video ( recorded via gtk-recordmydesktop app ).
2.) The feature "add new title" was used to create a svga title ,
which I put right before the ogv file in openshots timeline.
Issue :
3.) Playback preview window remains black , there is nothing to see in
the window - then as soon as the playback slider in the timeline was
moving from the svga file to the ogv, the whole app openshot crashes
with no error messages.
My succesful workaround - replace the version of openshot with newer one :
I installed today the "openshot" app now from the developers own ppa (
ppa:jonoomph/openshot-edge ) , which updates it to v1.4.2 ( v 1.4 is
precises default version )
All issues are solved magically, the very same svga/ogv combo that
made v1.4 crash is now properly playing back as it should have been
all the time.
So I would suggest to the ubuntu repo maintainer to either fix the bug
in v1.4 or to replace the package with the working v.1.4.2
