Re: PPB Meeting

I'm just curious, but how fast do you need to make releases? 3 months is pretty fast already, for a mature piece of software like Swift. What are you aiming for?

Thanks,

Ewan.

Since we are not having the meeting this week, I would like to bring up a couple of things for discussion before the next meeting.

1. We have a need at Rackspace to release cloudfiles features faster than openstack releases. We would prefer to not have to keep track of a separate repository in order to do this. So I would like to propose that Openstack allow sub-projects to release as necessary, rather than in lock step. An Openstack release then would be a collection of sub-project releases that are tested together at that time. So for example, for swift, the Cactus release may end up being something like swift 1.3.5 rather than 1.3. I also see this becoming more of an issue as external projects are brought into the fold.

2. I would like to propose the requirements of the PTL should be changed so that in order to be nominated, and serve as PTL, that person must also be a core contributor to that project. Currently, the only requirement is that the PTL has a commit to the code base. I don't foresee this being an issue in this election, but could see it being an issue down the road.

Let me know if you have any input.

All right...in the absence of any strong votes to do it and several to skip, we'll skip this week. And I will get the calendar/reminders set up that we talked about last week. Thanks,

Jonathan.
