Re: Last PPB meeting notes and next meeting agenda
Agreed re: forum, if PPB is in the business of controlling OpenStack
assets, we should be sure this is something worth adding and
maintaining.
I also added another agenda item about defining what the OpenStack
project model is exactly. After talking with folks last week at the
summit, I realize there are conflicting views on what exactly OpenStack
is. It seems some folks think it should be tightly controlled and
integrated along the lines of the Linux kernel (think of each OpenStack
project as a kernel subsystem). Others thought it was an Apache model
(controlled projects but not tightly integrated), while most seemed
to agree with a distro model like Ubuntu (tightly integrated but
with little to no control over individual projects). There are other
examples as well, but these three demonstrate the balance of control
and integration.
If we can agree on what model we are adopting, I think the other
decisions around resource allocation, project proposal requirements,
and incubation will come much more easily. We should also make this
crystal clear on the wiki so there is no confusion about what types
of projects and what integration level is appropriate.
