I think we need to set some expectation around how long the
stable-maintainers group is likely to be willing to maintain the branch.
The "until the next release" was just my gut feeling on that.

We can easily adjust that later (or now), but I'd prefer us to say
something more than "the branch will be maintained as long as people are
interested".
