Re: release fixed_ip

 

If you are using flatdhcp or vlan mode where nova is managing the leases, do not set the value of fixed_ip_disassociate_timeout lower than the dhcp_lease_time or you might end up giving an ip to an instance and have dnsmasq fail to hand it out.  The best way to reuse ips quickly is to set the config:

force_dhcp_release=true

This will force nova to send out a release packet when it destroys the vm so the ip is immediately released. Just be aware that it requires some extra binaries that come with dnsmasq that may not exist on all linux distributions.
