I've never run a SMF before personally (in fact, before OSDF, I'd
never heard of it) but looking at their site they seem to have a large
number of anti-spam modules:

I'd suggest pinging whoever set up the SMF (I assume they are on this
list) and see if they have more experience with it to see if they have
any suggestions, but chances are there'd be some combination of
modules we could use to make this easier to manage.

That being said, IMHO, blogspam (and spam in general) is always a
losing battle on our end ('our end' being 'the people hosting the
forums/sites/blogs/whatever) simply because it (spam) is entirely too
profitable and they (the spammers) are entirely too numerous (I used
to manage a number of anti-spam email gateway projects years ago
before I gave up due to basic frustration- it's why I just use gmail
now and let Google handle it for me...)

I'm not saying we shouldn't try to limit blogspam... I'm just saying
be prepared for there always to be blogspam no matter what we do :-)
