Re: Problem to install oship
Hi Wagner,
Again, thanks for your work here.
The FIRST & MAJOR problem is that in Python 2.6 the word 'with' became a
reserved word/keyword. 'With' is used in many places, but especially in
tests (there are over 2000 in Zope). So, in reality, the use of Python
2.6 at this point is not a possibility.
The other interesting discovery that you made was about grok.container.
There is a thread (as of TODAY) that discusses the fact that even some
of the core grok developers didn't realize they were pulling in
zope.container via recipes.
The issue behind this is the dependency reduction work in the zope
community. zope.container cause more than 80 dependencies. They have
been refactored down but of course everyone needs to adjust at this
point.
I really only learned this myself, this week, when working on getting
ZODB3.9 working with OSHIP (because it provides RelStorage, which is
really cool) directly.
While some of you may find all this frustrating. I think many of you
will find it exhilarating! As Phillip Ebby said in his Forward to PvW's
book; "Where Zope leads, Python follows". While the book is technically
wonderful. The first Forward by Paul Everitt (Co-founder of what became
Zope, Corp.) and the second Forward by Ebby (think setuptools and much
much more) are worth the price of the book. Even Guido worked at Zope
Corp before Google bought him out.
So.....my point is that yes this is frustrating at times. Then we mix i
the complexity of healthcare and its constant change. If you are a wimp
that likes stable, boring things. Then this field and CERTAINLY OSHIP
isn't for you. If you are bright and daring, you are in the right
place.
I'll never tell you that you are wrong. I may suggest, even insist at
times, that we go a slightly different route. But I *always* keep an
open mind and a keen ear. Convince me and I'll love you forever!
<lol>!!!!
Okay, so I got a little away from "Problem to install OSHIP".
But, we are at an alpha stage. I have 10 years worth of Zope in my
head. I want to convey that in an OSHIP perspective and as long as we
have a group of people like Roger, Roberto, Eduardo & Wagner working on
the details we will be an awesome team. But the team DOES need to be
bigger. There are a lot of things to do. Step up and I'll plug you in
to a spot that is right for you and the team. This isn't industry, it
is open source development!
Wheeeeew! I feel better. :-)
Cheers,
Tim
