Re: Releases

Hi All,
It has always been my opinion that alpha releases are really just
upgrades to the trunk.
I do not understand that: you replace the trunk by some newer version?
Some other projects actually release packages as alpha releases.
I think having alpha releases helps focusing attention of fellow
developers/testers. It gives people (uhm, that's to say: me) a more
comforting feeling of 'stability', or at least a less moving target than
yet another revision of trunk.
What to you think? Is it worth the time and energy required to create
tar.gz packages or just continue with incremental trunk upgrades until
we are ready for a beta 1 release?
I would favor to have some trunk snapshot (a 'revision') be tagged
'version-1.0a1' or whatever label you like. And skip the trouble of
exporting to a tar.gz release.
