We need to resolve this egenix-mx-base issue.

We need to first determine if it is a platform/OS issue.
Mine:
AMD64 Ubuntu 9.10 Python2.6.4 in a virtual environment w/o
site-packages.
Works as an egg from install_requires in setup.py but not if I try to
install it in the virtual environment directly.
Others?
