Yes, it turned out that I was starting an old server instance, a left
over from a migration. Somehow it looked current to me yesterday. So I
didn't really need the backup, although it helped in analyzing.
Along the way, the buildout problems were solved, too, with a local
up-to-date version of setuptools and distribute.
Now I can procede with a script that appends the IRC-logs to a logfile
found in the documentation section (still private, though).
