What do you think about the possibility of creating a new type to
store date and time with microsecond precision?  How hard would that
be?

I'm not sure if Drizzle has done this yet, but if so that might be
useful to examine.

This would be a pretty nice value-add.  Blogging about it and asking
for sponsors would probably be an effective way to raise the funds for
it.
