Bug description:
  Somewhere along the line in the V3.x branch we allowed to let various
  registration bugs creep in, this includes:

  # Pending default registrations are not shown.
  # When using token registration, the token database was not updated making token registration impossible.
  # User verification link was problematic.
  # There are 12 different registration conditions, some had unexpected behaviors.
  # Sending token invitation to users was not always successful.
