Hello Andy,

1. Just pressing the middle mouse button should try to zoom to the
selected rectangle. If the rectangle is empty, we'll try to divide by
the width and height and will probably crash on divide by zero. Trunk
revision 1629 should have the fix.

2. The current idea is that panning is what is done most of the time
with copying to clipboard or adding an annotation being an interruption
of that. Hence the idea to make it end automatically after it was used
once. If more complex editing features are added in the future, a
"sticky" current tool might be more useful, but currently I find the de-
emphasis of the function to corresponding with its limited
functionality.
