Message #01079
[Bug 579689] [NEW] The boot process breaks randomly at some point, although X starts
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
The boot process breaks randomly, mostly before getty is started. Lxdm
and X are starting, but the rest of the boot process is cut off. Getty,
smartd, powernowd and hddtemp are missing. Unfortunately also rc.local
does only start at random times. In contrast /etc/xdg/autostart is
working, but this is not part of the init process anyway.
This is a completely customised Ubuntu. I built a base system with
debootstrap and installed the rest with the attached script. This way,
you should get my package constellation.
Unfortunately the guide on
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/installation-guide/i386/linux-upgrade.html
is a little bit outdated. At the point, where you have to do 'chroot /path/to/installation-dir/ /bin/bash', you have to look for a system, which can actually do this without an exec file format error. I did no great tests, but on Ubuntu, grml and Knoppix live CDs it is not working. On Gentoo it works.
Hardware Specs:
HP Compaq 6735b notebook
FU308EA

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (base system) i386
However I think, this can be fixed with good information alone. Just
tell me, what you need.
