I've got a Dell Latitude C640 with a ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon
Mobility 7500] graphics chip-set.

I can confirm that using Compiz "Desktop Effects" renders Thunderbird
unusable i.e. dialogue boxes empty, missing toolbar, no right click!
Turning off Compiz "Desktop Effects" restores full Thunderbird
functionality. However, this is not an acceptable solution.

All other applications including Firefox work okay.
