two users confirmed the issue, so i'm guessing i'm not alone with the
experience:

Still having a problem with Delta44 on a friend's computer:

alsa-base:
  Installiert: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Kandidat: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

alsa-source:
  Installiert: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Kandidat: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

His Delta stopped working when he upgraded to Lucid..
