I'm using the openjdk and icedtea packages from Maverick on a Lucid box,
and it works fine for me.

I was actually having problems with Java applets (but not Java WebStart
applications) running at 100% CPU (even though they were responsive and
apparently working properly) on Lucid, and that problem has been fixed
with these packages from Maverick.

Were the openjdk/icedtea package updates the only thing that changed for
you between when it last worked and now?
