I have hope in you all. I know that this will be fixed someday.

In the mean time, we could use wicd [http://wicd.sourceforge.net/]
instead of mn-applet. It is in the Ubuntu Repository.

I haven't tried this one, but WiFi Radar [http://wifi-radar.berlios.de/]
might work as well.
