I am having the same problem, DVD/CD doesn't shows up in Nautlius. It's
after some update that I am having this problem. I never believed on
updates till my brother forced me to go for updates. I can say that I
was right and ubuntu updates are always buggy. They kill my alsa and
every update brings a new problem to play with. It's going to be an
offence but I am gonna say it " WINDOWS IS GETTING BETTER ESPECIALLY
WITH 64Bit".

TSST DVDROM / Dell Studio 14 with CORE i5/ Lucid Lynx

Bugs : Pendrive not recognized
           DVD ROM not recognized
           
Errors : mount: can't find dev/cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
