On my Lenovo T60 the Touchpad works great until I login using GDM.

After 2-3 seconds I've pressed "Login" it suddenly stops working and I
must use an external USB mouse."

I think it a different problem. In our case touchpad working well before
press the enable/ disable switch.. e then the pad still working but the
GUI has problems (freeze buttons, etc.)
