So, what about GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1" in Lucid? Doesn't it 
work anymore?

If it doesn't then you may try the following:

1) Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (if it exists in Lucid, because 
I'm using Debian):
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist ipv6

2) You may also add these lines in /etc/sysctl.conf:

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 0
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 0

Then reboot.

Anyway, I switched to Debian Unstable (Ubuntu is based on it). I also 
compile the kernel myself switching off IP6 and many other things, 
applying optimization patches etc. etc. So I'm not a helper anymore.
