So...I was trying to keep Andy's original intention of being platform-
agnostic in the script, so I only rely on easy_install.

Lemme ask Monty (or Andy, if you know!) if setup.py has some ability to
do a C++-like configure.ac for checking non-Python build dependencies
like this...
