As a general note to this bug report: it turned out that rewriting the
lesstif copy/paste code is well above my abilities. On both the lesstif
website (http://lesstif.sourceforge.net/#help)  and in the debian bts
551853 I have stated that help is very welcome. I had somebody looking
at the code who was knowledgeable about X and the clipboard, but haven't
heard from him after some initial communication.

Maybe Ubuntu should compile nedit again against openmotif?
