If you want to record from CD, you are better off using an application
like rhythmbox or sound-juicer, to rip/copy the tracks from the CD you
want. CD volume controls are not exposed, because just about all modern
CD and DVD drives are capable of copying CD audio accurately, either to
be played directly, or for the user to copy onto their hard drive.
