Hi Charles,

Shotwell 0.8 includes a startup scan which will detect when photos have
been renamed and associate them with the old photo objects in your
library.  (The ticket for this is http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2476)
This should take care of the problem you're describing.

As far as your third request, to choose lowercase conversion when
importing files, I've added that to this ticket:
