Is there anything that can be done to help with getting this defect fixed?
>From what I can see this has already been fixed in Debian, and looking at the changelog of the package libexiv2-6 in Maverick, there was also an attempt to get it fixed in Ubuntu.
Unfortunately don't have enough knowledge to apply the fix myself, but if testing or anything else is needed please say so.
