I can't use Shotwell just because that the tags aren't saved inside the
image. I have to use DigiKam instead and I'm not a KDE-person. I would
really like to use Shotwell for all my images, not only for fast editing
and viewing.

Couldn't you create and option for the user to either save the tags
inside the image or not?
