All this makes for more interesting data points.  gypsy_roadhog, if I
understand your message correctly, you're saying you performed all the
upgrades to the 10.10 release with no success.  But, when you did a full
install of 10.10 AMD-64, the problem went away.  Were you running a
64-bit version of 10.10 before the full upgrade?

bmhm, this info is good too, but I'm curious if upgrading libusb and
gphoto2 was sufficient without connecting your camera.  In other words,
do you still see the behavior if the camera is not connected?  I'm
assuming you do, but I just want to double-check all possibilities.
