I am glad to see that in the meantime this problem has been addressed
upstream and is resolved in Maverick.

To get rid of the described freezing-effect, set the parameter "WMServer RTSP dialect" as follows:
- Goto Tools - Preferences [or Ctrl-P]
- Set "Show settings" to "All" (in the lower left corner)
- Goto Input/Codecs - Demuxers - RTP/RTSP (left side)
- Check the box for "WMServer RTSP dialect"
