Well, I can't reproduce it. I unchecked the gnome-screensaver box and my
screen was still showing my desktop an hour later. Are you sure you gave
me the correct instructions? Please post step-by-step instructions
demonstrating something working improperly.

Blanking on by default makes sense, I don't see how this would be a bug.
