Hi list,
Today I've pushed a few changes that I'd quite like your feedback on.
First, I've implemented the new key sharing pages I mocked up a few days
ago. These talk about using "dates to confirm your identity", and
include a graphic (telephones, smiley face, or skull and crossbones) to
further spell out what's going on.
I mentioned the idea of a simplified UI in my previous post. Having
done all the relevant heavy lifting last week, that turned out to be
simple. Run the "share/remote-help-assistant/Gtk_simple_sharer.py"
program to have a look.
The simple interface has an "advanced" button that takes you to the main
assistant. How would you feel about a "simple" button that takes you
back again? That would give us a way to switch between "preferred" and
"standard" modes, and would let us disable one or other interface with a
configuration option that removes the relevant button.
I've changed page 2 to have three options: share your screen, share your
screen+keyboard+mouse, and access another computer. That makes it easy
to mark "screen only" as the recommended option, and makes a potentially
important question more prominent. Also, it opens up the possibility of
creating a "remote-help-assistant" package that can only share, with a
"remote-help-assistant-access" add-on package.
The above are all designed to provoke discussion more than as definite
proposals. In the same spirit of discussion, my next target is to
create a version with the separate "establish a connection" page back
again, and with at least the skeleton of some documentation. I hope to
have that available by this time tomorrow, but no promises.
