0) displayed as they are;
1) "Yes" | "No" | "" - (can be translated);
2) "Y" | "N" | "" - (can be translated);
3) "+" | "-" | "";
4) "[ + ]" | "[ - ]" | "[   ]";

Some other function could return check-box typefaces from font...

Any other suggestions

As temporary workaround "if" directives can be used.

pls instead of true and false we need a nationalized conversion function

true - YES  
false - NO  
null - empty
